Signs Signs Signs Everywhere are Signs in Minnesota
Not just a protest song, but a fact. Signs are everywhere. Most of the Twin cities signs I see are very functional, and some of them are down right pointless.
Let’s begin this note with one statement of fact. All business signs either Identify and/or Advertise. Do you agree? What does your business sign do? Does it advertise or identify? Let’s take a look at these two ideas.
Identifying business signs:
In order to be considered Identifying, you should be able to say yes to as many of the questions below as possible.
Wall Signs
- Can it be read from the street?
- Can it be read while driving at the speeds being driven on that street?
- Can it be read at night?
- Can it be read from across the street?
Pylon Signs or Pole signs all of the above plus:
- Can you read it from the nearest intersection?
- Is anything blocking it’s view?
- Can it be easily read in the time it takes to pass it?
Advertising Business signs:
These questions qualify your wall sign or pole sign as advertisement, in addition to answering the above questions.
- When people read it they know immediately what you sell?
When people read it they know immediately what you want to sell?
You see, many business use their sign simply as identification. That’s fine if people already know what it is you sell. If you want the other 99% who don’t know who you are to come in a buy from you, you may want to change your sign over to advertisement. As an example, I have a client with a restaurant. Everyone knows that he is a restaurant, but nobody knows that it has a BUFFET!
Instead of a wall sign that says “Johnson, Smith & Jones”, which can be big and beautiful, why not “ACCOUNTANT” which immediately tells everyone your an accounting firm. Instead of some name that means so much to you, why not a picture name that means something to everyone else?
Do you need someone to give you a free evaluation on you current sign? Could your business sign be doing more? If so, just give this sign guy a call.
Good signing
